Perhaps because it appeared fairly quickly and because new sites pop up all the time, social media has been considered by some a fad or passing marketing interest, and an unprofitable one.

That couldn’t be further from the truth, the benefit of social media to your business, brand and online presence are vast, if used correctly.

The truth is it’s not enough now to simply have a website and search optimised it, you need to have a good, responsive, search optimised site just as a starting point. One of the key things being social media, recent changes have seen search engines favouring websites with social media, even at its most basic level its valuable in links back to your website, but there are so many more great benefits that make social media an absolute must.

Which social media sites you use may vary depending on your business and your marketing goals. For some people Facebook and Twitter works very well, for others LinkedIn or YouTube is better or even some of the not so widely used sites such as SoundCloud can be great depending on what you want to achieve. Ideally use as many as you can realistically manage that work for you, don’t just have a page for the sake of it. You may even have to try a few and test to see which ones give you the best return on your time and money.
